노인 일자리 여기 Project to become a proud senior in 2024! Participate in the senior job creation project~ – Policies spoken by the people | News | Republic of Korea Policy Briefing

노인 일자리 여기A nursing home was built in the place where a large daycare center in our neighborhood used to be. In the morning, for some reason, silver care vehicles are more noticeable than kindergarten buses. According to an announcement from the National Statistical Office earlier this year, Korea’s total fertility rate last year was 0.78, the lowest ever. It ranks last among the 38 OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) countries.
As we enter a super-aging society with a low birth rate, how the lives of the elderly population are maintained is becoming an essential factor when discussing the quality of life in our country. Health is probably the number one priority for happiness for most seniors, including my parents who are now in their mid-70s or mid-60s. To stay healthy, my dad hikes and my mom swims regularly. However, since you are still healthy, you can take care of yourself.
However, it is economic power that determines the quality of life of the elderly as much as health. In fact, it is the same for everyone, not just the elderly, but if you have money, you can meet friends and sometimes even give pocket money to your grandchildren. But is it really common in our society to want older people?
However, what is very fortunate is the government’s senior job creation project that provides support for the elderly. We are recruiting participants for next year’s senior jobs until December 29th. My parents are now job seekers and are working hard to find out what they can do. Having a job and being able to work somewhere and make money, no matter how much, gives you great confidence. Just the thought that I am a necessary person in society and that there is a place that needs me has a tremendously positive effect on my physical and mental health.
The government announced that it will expand the senior citizen job creation project to the largest extent ever by 2024. It is said that the related budget will also be significantly increased from KRW 1.54 trillion to KRW 2.0262 trillion to support a healthy and happy retirement life for more seniors. The 2024 senior job and social activity support project is divided into public interest activity type, social service type, and market type project group.
In the case of Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, where my parents live, only basic pension recipients over the age of 65 can participate in public interest activities where they can receive 290,000 won per month upon full employment. Meanwhile, social service workers working in public institutions or childcare facilities have longer working hours and higher wages than public service workers. There are also other types such as the market type and job placement type that work at silver cafes, etc.
If you are an elderly person who wishes to participate, you can visit the city/county/district administrative welfare center or senior welfare center at your address, but in my father’s case, he was not familiar with smartphones, so he applied through an on-site visit. And in the case of my mother, a young(?) senior who is using the government 24 app, she completed the application online.
According to an acquaintance who works as a civil servant, when it is time to look for jobs for the elderly, seniors come here even before they go to work. For the elderly, a job is an important factor in continuing their lives. I think many seniors are still busy going to and from their local administrative welfare center.
If you are a senior who needs counseling, please call the main phone number (1544-3388). To apply in person, call the nearest administrative welfare center, senior welfare center, Korea Senior Citizens Association, or Senior Club. To apply online, visit ‘Senior Jobs Here’ (www.seniorro.or.kr) , Bokjiro (www.bokjiro.go.kr), and Government 24 (www.gov.kr). As the government’s budget has increased significantly, the happiness index of more seniors is expected to increase in 2024. Seniors of Korea, fighting!
